Alternatives to Safe Harbor
The US safe harbor programme exists to allow US companies to store data on E.U. citizens. For companies that want to participate in the program there is a self certification process.
However, there is an alternative to the program in the form of a Binding Corporate Rules, which allow a company to undertake provisions to protect data being transferred out of the European Union.
